2018 Planetree Conference Featured SHHS Faculty, Staff & Students!

Dozens of faculty, students and staff presented their latest person-centered healthcare research at the 2018 Planetree Conference in Boston last month. The Planetree organization was founded 40 years ago as a patient-centered care revolution when Angie Thieriot demanded on behalf of all patients that healthcare organizations meet individuals’ human need for respect, control and warm and supportive care. National University was front and center with a booth at the conference and several presentations and posters. The School of Health and Services ( SHHS ) showcased its programs as the world’s only Planetree certified University ! SHHS students assisted with the conference sessions and presented posters on Person Centered and student driven student committees . The event week featured an all SHHS dinner at the Copley Center hosted by Dean Dr. Gloria McNeal that celebrated all our hard work and success at the conference. Health Sciences Adjunct Faculty Member Wins Book Award!

One of our SHHS Adjunct Faculty in Health Sciences, Dr. Chuck Stewart , was named a 2018 American Book Fest winner for his 3 Volume Reference book, “ Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Americans at Risk ”.     Dr. Stewart holds a PhD in Education from USC and has now written 16 books for a remarkable 3 million published words in print! He teaches part-time for the Department of Community Health and Mathematics at National University . The full results from the American Book Fest awards are here .

SHHS Faculty Member Publishes Another Book!

Community Health Department Associate Faculty Member Dr.David Lemberg has published yet another book. See another of his works featured on the school blog here . This work is a first edition textbook. The 378-page tome features the exploration and analysis of ethical and legal issues in healthcare, leading to local, national, and global initiatives that make a lasting difference, will assist all of us in creating and perpetuating an environment in which the human spirit may thrive, flourish, and prosper. Ethical and Legal Issues in Healthcare provides a framework for and contributes to the ongoing growth and development of healthcare students across the spectrum of specialization in nursing, medicine, and the allied health sciences. Holiday Cheer Event Another Success!!!

Even as the Winter Holidays are over, winter is still around for most of the country. And seven families in San Diego County are still feeling the warmth of gifts and donated refurbished computers from the SHHS. This annual event founded by school dean Dr. Gloria McNeal was taken over by SHHS students who raised over $7,000 to help local families.
