MSN Specialization in Nursing Informatics Approved for Online Delivery

Provost Heveron announced today that the MS Nursing: Specialization in Nursing Informatics (MSNNI) was approved by WASC for online delivery. A special congratulations goes to Dr. Mary Kracun and Ms Linda Macomber for their leadership in preparing the application. A special thanks also to Academic Services for managing the application process.

New Staff in the Nursing Department

Caroline Fortuno joined the Los Angeles Nursing Department as the Student Support Specialist on August 22, 2011. Caroline has several years experience as an Admissions Representative at South Coast College and as a Job Placement Coordinator at North-West College, where she worked with the nursing students. In addition, Caroline has a B.S. in Business Administration from California State University, Long Beach and is currently enrolled in the M.S. Educational Counseling program at National University. She will graduate in October, 2011. Caroline’s responsibilities will include serving as the liaison and counselor for all nursing students, resolving academic and student services issues, and managing all aspects of new student orientation. Roslyn Villalobos joined the Fresno Nursing Department as the Student Support Specialist on August 29, 2011. Roslyn has worked as a Center Assistant for the Fresno center for ten years and has a solid understanding of university policies and

In April, SHHS became a member of Physician Partners VIP Health Connect, an organization formed to build a community of physicians and related organizations promoting standards of excellence for high quality, cost-effective healthcare. VIP Health Connect currently consists of approximately 600 San Diego physicians and related organizations. Highlights and updates from the MS Health Informatics Program!

This summer, current San Diego MS Health Informatics students have been busy putting what they are learning into action by: · Creating Digital Portfolios (DPs), · Participating in the national Electronic Health Record (EHR) Showcase at Naval Medical Center San Diego, · Interpreting best practice case studies, · Developing health information technology strategic plans, and · Simulating use of an EHR system using the National University Health IT simulation lab.
