Posttraumatic stress disorder and depression among US military health care professionals deployed in support of the operations in Iraq and Afghanistan

Posttraumatic stress disorder and depression among US military health care professionals deployed in support of the operations in Iraq and Afghanistan . J Trauma Stress; 2012 Dec;25(6):616-23. Among military personnel deployed with combat experience, health care professionals did not have increased odds for new-onset PTSD or depression over time compared to individuals in other occupations. Combat experience significantly increased the odds for new-onset PTSD or depression among deployed health care professionals, suggesting that combat experience, not features specific to being a health care professional, was the key exposure explaining development of these outcomes.

Dr. Ricardo Parker Joins the Department of Health Sciences

It is my pleasure to introduce our newest addition to the full-time faculty in the Department of Health Sciences, Dr. Ricardo Parker. Ricardo is the new Program Lead for the BS in Allied Health Program. Dr. Parker earned his PhD in Microbiology from Oregon State University, and trained as a post-doctoral Research Fellow at the National Cancer Institute . Since 1994, Dr. Parker has been a clinical cancer scientist with his major research focus being the molecular biology of cancer, mechanisms of chemotherapy drug resistance and the development of novel clinical strategies and tools to predict and stratify treatment regimens toward rational therapy of cancer patients. He is joining us from his most recent position at Loma Linda University, where he provided leadership and direction toward development and support of clinical research projects and clinical trials involving infants and children.
