Announcement from Marie LaFargue - Adjunct Faculty, Health Science Department

As part of this vital committee for the Commission, Marie will work closely with Ruth Creary, PhD, Chair, to integrate the Komen African American Breast Health Initiative--Circle of Promise efforts--as well as other key county wide initiatives that focus on women from diverse groups into the the Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic Timeline (SMART) goals for 2012. Introducing Ms. Peggy Mata, RN, MSN as a new Full Time Faculty Member in the Department of Nursing

We are pleased to announce that Ms. Peggy Mata has recently joined SHHS and the Department of Nursing as the full time faculty member at the Rancho Bernardo campus Ms. Mata earned an AS in Nursing from Maric College, BS in Nursing from the University of Phoenix and an MS in Nursing from the University of Phoenix. Ms. Mata has 12 years of clinical nursing experience in the Sharp Health System, San Diego, Naval Medical Center San Diego and VA Medical Center in La Jolla. In addition to her clinical experience, Ms. Mata was a Lead Instructor in medical-surgical nursing at Azusa Pacific University for the past five years, Clinical Instructor at Grossmont Community College for the past five years and has one year as Lead Instructor in medical-surgical nursing at Maric College. Ms. Mata will have an office at the Rancho Bernardo campus.

Introducing Dr. Karen Garman as the new Program Lead for the Master of Healthcare Administration

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Karen Garman has recently joined SHHS and the Department of Community Health as the full time Program Lead for the Master of Healthcare Administration degree program. Dr. Garman earned BS in Business Administration and Communication Arts from LaSalle University, an M.Ed. in Instructional Design and Media from Temple University, an MA in Applied Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania and a EdD from the University of Southern California in Adult Higher and Professional Education. She has 24 years of experience in various positions within higher education, including both faculty and administrative positions. Most recently Dr. Garman was President of Healthcare Education, Leadership and Performance, Inc., (San Diego, CA). Previously she served as Associate Adjunct Professor, Department of Medicine, University of California San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine for 15 years; Co-Director, UCSD School of Medicine Center for Applied Research

New Course to NU: CLS 310 Clinical Virology is being offered for the first time by SHHS in the August Term (Online). Online Research Center coming soon!

As you may have heard at the Spring Symposium, the SHHS has been working with IT to develop an Online Health Research Center. Consultant John Kurata has been leading the development and now new faculty member Tyler Smith will become more heavily involved in further development of the site. Other involved faculty include David Adesanya, Caroline Ellermann, Linda Macomber, Thomas Tuchscher, Michael Myers, Gina Piane and Dean Michael Lacourse. The goal is to create a central place where students and faculty can not only access the latest databases in Health Care related research, but benefit from case study examples of how to conduct and publish what they find. The Center will also reach out to members of local Health Care Centers. Below is a screen shot of the current version of the Center that has been sent out for faculty review.
