New Internship Agreement with Physicians Group Makes Offering and Finding that Important Internship Easier

The Department of Community Health, led by Chair Dr. Tyler Smith, announced an important initiative to make it easier for students in the department to find and land that all important internship in their public health and health care administration programs.  Scripps Mercy Physicians Partners have hundreds of physicians under their umbrella that will participate.   The plan is to develop an online portal for internship positions to be posted and applied to in a one stop shopping approach.  Stay tuned for upcoming details.  The story has been widely covered in the media. Health Sciences Clinical Assistant Professor Linda Travis Macomber was honored on May 4th by Athena, a San Diego-based business organization championing women executives and rising managers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).  Athena's Pinnacle Awards are held each year in the spring to recognize extraordinary individuals and organizations who have shown dedication to in promoting Athena's mission of fostering the personal and professional growth of women through mentoring, education, recognition, and leadership training. 2018 Planetree Conference Featured SHHS Faculty, Staff & Students!

Dozens of faculty, students and staff presented their latest person-centered healthcare research at the 2018 Planetree Conference in Boston last month. The Planetree organization was founded 40 years ago as a patient-centered care revolution when Angie Thieriot demanded on behalf of all patients that healthcare organizations meet individuals’ human need for respect, control and warm and supportive care. National University was front and center with a booth at the conference and several presentations and posters. The School of Health and Services ( SHHS ) showcased its programs as the world’s only Planetree certified University ! SHHS students assisted with the conference sessions and presented posters on Person Centered and student driven student committees .
