SHHS Student Research Fellowship

The National University Library launched a pilot project through the Center of Excellence that created an opportunity for the librarians to host student research fellows. Hi, my name is Sarah and I was hired as the first ever Student Research Fellow. It has been one of the best experiences I've ever had because I have learned so much and have been given opportunities that have provided me a competitive edge moving forward into my career path. This experience allowed me to work directly with faculty to do research and submit a manuscript for publishing. Also, I was able to apply my new research skills in all the classes I took while I was a fellow, resulting in straight A's in all of my courses. My time, here at the library, is coming to an end as I am getting ready to ship out for Army basic training but I will carry this experience with me forever. 2018 Planetree Conference Featured SHHS Faculty, Staff & Students!

Dozens of faculty, students and staff presented their latest person-centered healthcare research at the 2018 Planetree Conference in Boston last month. The Planetree organization was founded 40 years ago as a patient-centered care revolution when Angie Thieriot demanded on behalf of all patients that healthcare organizations meet individuals’ human need for respect, control and warm and supportive care. National University was front and center with a booth at the conference and several presentations and posters. The School of Health and Services ( SHHS ) showcased its programs as the world’s only Planetree certified University ! SHHS students assisted with the conference sessions and presented posters on Person Centered and student driven student committees . Dr. Scott Higgins - SHHS Interim Dean

Dr. Scott Higgins joined us a s Inter im Dean, School of Health and Human Services, and will serve through June 30, 2013. Dr. Higgins recently retired from W estern Carolina University , where he held positions as D ean of the Gr aduate School and Chief Research Officer , program director of several graduate and undergraduate he alth sciences programs, and pro fessor. Hi s care er includes positions as Ass ociate Professor, Respiratory Ther apy a t the Medical University of Sou th Carolina and as Director and Instructor in the Respiratory Therapy Program at Valencia C ommunity College in F lorida. Dr. Higgins earned his Bachelor of Science, Respiratory Therapy from Florida Technological University (now University of Central Florida), his M.S. in Allied Health Science Administration from Indiana University and his Ed.D Higher Education Administration with a concentration in Health Care Administration from the University of South Carolina.
