You can read all about the appointment of certified core Adjunct Faculty member Marie La Fargue’s new role with the National Consortium of Breast Centers (NCBC) organization here .   The NCBC is a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to excellence in breast health care for the general public.   Ms. La Fargue holds an MPH from UCLA.   Based out of our Costa Mesa Campus, she has taught several onsite and online classes this past year in the Health Science Department including Mgmt for Health Professionals , Research in Radiation Therapy, Healthcare Research and is about to teach Health Education & Promotion online.   Congratulations to her for this important work.

The New Year rang in a little brighter for several San Diego families thanks to the initiative from the new Dean of the School of Health and Human Services .   Dr. Gloria McNeal began an initiative during the Holiday season to increase the SHHS’s involvement in the community.   She reached out immediately to involve students and worked with faculty to identify local families who needed help during the Holidays.   These families were also identified for the work they do in their communities as role models and parents.   The NU student nursing association began to raise money for these families, along with the involvement of SHHS faculty and staff.   A total of $2,500 was raised for holiday gifts for the children and parents.   The families were recognized at a public event at the Spectrum campus on December 16 th .   Speakers included faculty members Dr. AlbaDiaz from Community Health and Dr. Lori Michelangelo from Nursing.   Dr. Michela...

This fall, Dr. Ellen Kaye Gehrke was accepted into the 2014 CCT (Compassion Cultivation Training) Teacher Certification Program by the CCARE ( Center for Compassion andAltruism Research and Education ). Stanford University’s CCARE’s CCT Teacher Certification Program is a part-time training and certification program for professionals who want to teach CCARE's Compassion Cultivation Training course. Trainees who fulfill all of the program requirements, including a period of supervised teaching apply for certification to teach CCT courses in their respective communities. The CCT course is an 8-week educational program that combines traditional contemplative practices with contemporary psychology and scientific research to help participants to learn how to lead a more compassionate life.
