On April 5 th , a dozen MHA students and Dr. Stephen Bowman journeyed to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla to meet one-on-one with the top brass. In an executive session, students met with Gary Fybel, CEO and Sandy Hughes, Executive Director for Human Resources to explore career pathways and develop connections and networks for future internships, residencies and career management positions. This is the first in a series of CEO meetings sponsored by the NU MHA student association.

Am J Ind Med ; 2013. Brief overview: Acute work-related trauma is a leading cause of death and disability for U.S. workers but it is difficult to obtain information about injured workers not covered by workers' compensation (WC). In this study, we describe trends in expected payer and linkage to WC claims, compare characteristics of injured workers who did and did not have a linked WC claim, and describe variation in expected payer and linkage to WC claims by ethnicity and injury severity.

Community Health Chair Dr. Gina Piane introduces her faculty at the Spring Symposium as Interim Dean Scott Higgins looks on. Faculty gathered from all across the regions to participate in this year's annual NU Spring Symposium at San Diego Marriott in Mission Valley.  The three day event started with a student and faculty scholarship day and included several faculty run panel discussions and presentations.  Topics of the symposium ranged from assessment and instruction to smartphone apps and building a compassionate workplace.  This spring event is presented by the Faculty Senate and features faculty annual elections and time for the school to meet as one body as well as individual departments.  Over 40 SHHS faculty attended this important event.

The most recent report of the NCLEX pass rates for Nati o nal University shows an increase from previous years.  Our pass rate for fi r st time takers of the NCLEX e xam ( BS level) rose to 93.06%.  This is above the national average of 87.25 % for the NCLEX exam .
